Instructions for setting up a dial-up connection on an Apple I-Mac & OS9 for Tech Info Internet service

  • In order to connect an iMac, iBook or G3/G4 machine using OS9 to the Internet there are a number of configuration settings that must be first set.
  • First of all we need to setup your username, password and the Tech Info modem number details in the section called Remote Access.
  • To get to this information, click once on the Apple in the top left corner of the screen, then select Control Panels, then Remote Access from the drop down menu which appears (refer to the picture to the left).
  • After selecting Remote Access you will be taken to the screen  where you need to type in your username, password and the phone number you are dialling.
  • Your username and password are shown on the invoice/receipt which accompanies this document.
  • The phone number (actually the number of our modem bank) for your I-Mac to dial is (03) 9433-4444. This number will connect you to our 56k modem system.
  • Once you have entered that information, click the Options button and then click the tab at the top called Protocols and untick the 4th box called Connect to a command-line host:
  • With that information entered you can now click the OK button and the iMac is now ready to establish a dial-up connection via its modem.
  • Next step is to configure the DNS settings.
  • Click once on the Apple in the top left corner, then select, Control Panels, then select TCP/IP.
  • Next, set all the  options to be same as the screenshot to the left.
  • The Name Server Addresses in order should read
    203.63.149.1
    203.63.149.1
  • and the domain search should read techinfo.com.au
  • You can now save and exit and the iMac is now ready to connect to the internet with Tech Info Internet Service.

Note: Once you have completed the steps on these pages, you have set up the dial up connection from your I-Mac/OS9 to the Tech Info internet service.
